United for Peace and Justice in San Jose is an anti-war witness in the San Jose area. We sponsor peace vigils at the San Jose Federal Building, 2nd and San Carlos, on Friday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The vigils started on November 16, 2001. During 2005, attendance usually ranges from 10 to 30 people.
We have three major goals: 1) To be a constant, weekly, peace presence in downtown San Jose; 2) to provide an opportunity for people to take a public stand against war, militarism, and the erosion of civil rights; and 3) to provide an opportunity for networking and fellowship among people committed to a future of peace and justice.
The vigils will continue as long as people are willing to show up and stand for peace. We hold vigils in the rain, so long as it is not a major downpour.
